You can clean company names for free with Datablist's Company Name Cleaner. It costs 0.5 credits per name, and the Free plan includes 500 credits per year. If you have not used those credits elsewhere, this covers up to 1,000 names.

Clean the names before deduplication by removing formatting noise while keeping the original value for review. Common cleanup includes consistent case, spacing, punctuation, and legal suffixes such as Inc., LLC, Ltd., or GmbH.

For example:

  • ACME, INC. becomes Acme
  • Acme LLC becomes Acme
  • Acme Group becomes Acme Group

Normalization makes company names easier to compare. It does not prove two records belong to the same business.

Use a stable identifier first

When possible, deduplicate companies with a domain, website, LinkedIn company URL, or CRM account ID. These identifiers are usually safer than a company name alone.

Use normalized names for records without a stable identifier. Add country, city, domain, or another field when a short or generic name could create a false match.

Clean names without overwriting the source

Create a separate Clean Company Name property and write normalized values there. Keeping both columns makes it easier to review unusual outputs and restore the source value.

Datablist offers two relevant workflows:

  • The Company Name Cleaner creates a cleaned property for personalization and data preparation.
  • The Company Name processor in the Duplicates Finder normalizes names during comparison without rewriting the stored cells.

Follow the company-name normalization guide to prepare the data. Then use the company deduplication guide to compare domains and company names, review the groups, and merge duplicate records.
